Im in a hard place right now...

Posted in Group:

I feel like Im ALL messed up when it comes to my career, and it really depresses me... I never in my life wanted to do anything but teach. I started teaching 12 years ago, and loved the job, but not where I worked. It kept getting worse until my school district and I parted ways 2 years ago. And not pleasantly. Since I quit, finding a new teaching job would be really hard. I kinda felt lost for a long time, my whole identity for many years was teaching. It was my only passion, and the only thing I felt really good about, I knew I was good, I felt respected and valuable, and comfortable. Without that... So about a year ago I had a baby and have been a stay at home mom since.... And I LOVE my son, and I am glad I haev been able to be home with him, but now I have a new dimemna!! I need to go back to work, and am stressed about that, and I also feel very lost, bored, worthless being home alone all day every day. I can't adjust. And to go back to work, well there aren't teaching jobs these days, so what to do??? I need a good job to afford child care etc.. So difficult and I'm so stressed about it. Anyone have any good advice or suggestions??

Have you thought about working at a tutoring location like Kumon? There are so many these days and they only hire teachers, at the very least it might be something to help ease you back into work and put something on your resume to help erase the "mommy gap."

CK has an excellent idea! Or how about teaching night classes? Some colleges are always looking for teachers at night to teach classes. Volunteer teaching may also lead to opportunities too.
