If you can go back and get more education and get ahead in life, please do it. Not only it will benefit you knowledge wise, but it will keep you busy during this difficult economy. Being a nurse or dental hygienist you will always find a job anywhere in the world. Wishing you all the success. God bless you.

I worked for 6 yrs in dental field. Dental Hygiene is an excellent carrer field. The pay is generally good and the jobs are usually abundant. Good luck! My Dad used to tell me that there was only one thing that nothing could ever take away and that is a degree! Just go for it!

So here again are my thoughts: Dental hygiene will always be a booming field and there is huge $ to be made. You are helping people be healthy. Very gtatifying. You can do that job in any town, in any state and its not generally affected by changes in our nation's economy. A salon is risky in that it can be hardly impacted in a down turn of the economy. The competition factor will always be there and massage is a physically grueling field. I would say dental hygiene is definitely more stable. I had a friend that worked for 3 different denists, 2 days a week for each. She made $39 and worked nearly 50 hrs a week. She was able to take her self off the schedule whenever she wanted time off and earned enough and had the freedom necessary to take a lot of vacations. She lived a very financially comfortable life healping a lot of people. I have another friend that owns a salon, struggles to keep her schedule filled, says a lot of her clients are stuck up, vain people and she hates it. She is trying to sell her building and business and can't find anyone willing to give her 1/2 of what she's invested in it back. You have a huge decision to make. I would recommend contacting some strangers in both fields and ask them what the ups and downs of wach field are. They will give you better insight than any one else can. Good luck! Regardless of you choice, change is always kinda scary. - Keli

The the dental assisting field in general is booming nowadays for whatever reason. The decision all depends on if you will like doing that type of work or not. If it is a passion of yours, get the degree later.

You have to look within to find out what you really want, not what we say.

Self exploration and Self Discovery are acts of courage. Clarifylife, Moodgym and other online tools do in fact help.

My sister is a dental hygenist. She loves it. Me....I could never look in people's mouth's for a living! Being an RN can offer you many opportunities you have probably not even thought of. Most nursing programs are Bachelor's programs (in Canada they are) and then you can also specialize even further. You can be a nurse on a ward, providing care to patients until they are released or you can go in trauma nursing, which can bring you work in Emergency, ICU, ORs, Ambulance, search and rescue, 911 operator. It can also bring you into the teaching end of nursing where you are an educator. YOu can also look for work in schools. There are nurses that travel the world and help out causes and countries. You can also do work as a clinician in ORs. Pharmaceutical sales often hire nurses as well. Either career choice you make I'm sure you will not regret. You have to choose the one that inspires you most. good luck!!!
