Blackballed from employment due to Whistleblower retaliation

Posted in Group:

Any suggestions on how to get hired when past employer, who I worked for for 11 years, keeps providing bad references?

I was SH as a female federal agent by 1st line supervisor,at job at DOD, in 1998. I tried to resolve problem for two years with mgmt. but got nowhere. I was forced to sue them and won the suit in 2003. But i ended up winning the battle but lost the war.

I have applied for 95 jobs and did not receive one of them. I even earned a State Dept internship until at last moment my agencies bad reference canceled it.

My background is in forensic acctg, fraud investigations and I speakArabic. I finished a graduate degree in 2009 at UCLA in MidEast and Arabic studies, with 3.6 GPA, in hopes of finding a job, but internship fell thru and I got depressed.

I can not find a lawyer who is willing to fight the DOD, for blackballing and retaliation.

I am on fed disability for back injury (from incident) and trying to go back to being productive and bored at home.

Any suggestions?

I would gather all statistics and delineate your success at your previous place of employment, including the 11 year term of employment and possibly provide the legal documents of your suit which would negate any ''blackballing'' of your previous employer. Basically, defend yourself against the negative attacks that may ensue from your previous employer.

Thank you afflcted misfit for the advice. I have tried delineateing my 11 yr successes and the lawsuit I have disclosed the general details. I try to keep interview poaitive yet accurate and everything seema great and verbally I get the job and the last thing they do ia check my references and that is when they stop talking with me about a start date, etc (the hiring agency). It seems like whatever my past agency lie is planted in their brain, sticks with them against all the plethora of positive interviews, perf ratings, past successes they have seen, my special skills of being bi-cultural and bi-lingual in Islamic culture and Arabic. Verrrrry frustrating!!!!

Hi Rapunzel,
How unfair. Do you have a reference from your past company who will give you a positive reference? Use that person as your reference and provide another two references who are unrelated to the company. If you have a professional relationship with another person who would be willing to provide a reference would be good and then use a personal one for your last reference. I know how you feel. I am a hard worker and am well liked by colleauges but never management/bosses it seems. I wish you the best of luck.

I would suggest EEOC, but I just had a bad experience there. It seems you could file a retaliation claim. But then it is still the government, but I would try that and fight the _______s. I agree with the post about references-find someone you KNOW will be fair and give you a good reference. So sorry you are having this problem - so unfair.
